ACGME Joins National Academy of Medicine’s 'Action Collaborative' to Promote Physician Well-Being
In response to alarmingly high rates of depression and suicide among US health care workers, the ACGME is joining NAM as it launches a new, wide-ranging “action collaborative” of multiple organizations working to promote physician well-being and resilience. The initiative will identify priorities and collective efforts to advance evidence-based solutions to reverse trends in clinician stress and improve patient care and outcomes.
“The ACGME has been fully engaged in this issue for the past two-and-a-half years, and we look forward to collaborating with the NAM to bring the issue to the attention of the medical community in earnest. There is a need for those of us involved in the formal educational space to work with stakeholders in the undergraduate and graduate education clinical learning environment to better understand the causes of clinician burnout and depression and advance evidence-based solutions that reverse these troubling trends.”
