What information should I make available to applicants?

House Officer Eligibility and Selection

LSU School of Medicine ensures that its training programs select from eligible applicants on the basis of their preparedness, ability, aptitude, academic credentials, communication skills, and personal qualities such as motivation and integrity. Programs do not discriminate with regard to sex, race, age, religion, color, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, or veteran status. House Officer selection criteria must conform to the guidelines of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) General Requirements.

NRMP Applicant Eligibility

Program Eligibility

Only applicants who meet one of the following criteria may be accepted for residency training in accredited programs sponsored by LSU Health Sciences Center:

US Citizens

Permanent Residents of the United States

J1 Visa sponsored by ECFMG - As noted in Chancellor Memorandum 39 (CM-39) ECFMG sponsorship as a J-1 exchange visitor is the appropriate and only mechanism whereby foreign physicians may enter graduate medical education/training programs at the LSU Health Sciences Center

Employment Authorization Document (EAD) - is NOT accepted for Graduate Medical Education Training at LSUHSC.  It is NOT a Permanent Resident Card.  An EAD card is one way to prove someone is allowed to work in the U.S. for a specific time.

ECFMG Certificate Required for all non US Medical School Graduates

Fellowship Programs

The ACGME includes two choices for fellowship eligibility. All applicants should review the criteria as established by the relevant Resident Review Committee.
