Duty hours are defined as all clinical & academic activities related to the program; i.e., patient care (both inpatient & outpatient), administrative duties relative to patient care, the provision for transfer of patient care, time spent in-house during call activities, & scheduled activities, such as conferences. Duty hours do not include reading & preparation time spent away from the duty site.Rules for duty hours (i.e. how many hours can be worked per week, days off required, etc.) are defined by the ACGME in the Common Program Requirements (VI. Resident Duty Hours in the Learning and Working Environment). 

All House Officers are required to record Duty Hours within New Innovations on a timely basis.  Compliance with Duty Hour recording is monitored by programs and the GME Office.
