Duty hours are defined as all clinical & academic activities related to the program; i.e., patient care (both inpatient & outpatient), administrative duties relative to patient care, the provision for transfer of patient care, time spent in-house during call activities, & scheduled activities, such as conferences. Duty hours do not include reading & preparation time spent away from the duty site.Rules for clinical experience and education (i.e. how many hours can be worked per week, days off required, etc.) are defined by the ACGME in the Common Program Requirements (VI. The Learning and Working Environment).  Hours are recorded in New Innovations by House Officers, and monitored by programs and the GME Office.
