GME Terminology

Milestones are the ACGME's standardized competency-based developmental outcomes (e.g., knowledge, skills, attitudes, and performance) that can be demonstrated and evaluated progressively by residents and fellows in their respective programs.  The milestones for each program/specialty were created jointly by the ACGME and relevant specialty boards.  Twice per year, each resident is required to undergo a Milestone Evaluation to assess the resident's progress towards achieving the milestones.
