Evaluations

Evaluations are required per the ACGME Common Program Requirements (V. Evaluation).  House Officers are evaluated against the ACGME Core Competencies as defined in the Common Program Requirements, and the Milestones defined by the Residency Review Committee for the respective specialty.  Most evaluations should be conducted in New Innovations. A supplemental evaluation system was created for immediate feedback: Resident Evaluation Express

House Officers should be evaluated at the end of every rotation block by faculty and their peers.  Evaluations should be distributed approximately 1 week before the end of the block, and should be completed no more than 14 days after the end of the rotation. See Evaluation of House Officers for detailed information.

Each residency and fellowship program is required to have all residents and faculty evaluate the overall program a minimum of once per year (at the end of the year).  See Evaluation of Program for detailed information.

Semi-annually, all house officers are evaluated by their respective program's Clinical Competency Committee to assess progress within the program's Milestones.  The results of these evaluations are submitted to the ACGME. These evaluations should be completed within New Innovations before submitting the final data to the ACGME.  Completing these within New Innovations will allow programs to track house officer progression thru the milestones, and also aggregates and displays related evaluation for easy access when completing the evaluations. See How to Complete the Annual Program Evaluation (APE) for detailed information.

Faculty should be evaluated twice per year by House Officers at a minimum, but it is recommended for them to be evaluated at the end of every rotation block.  House Officer anonymity must be protected, and if needed, completed evaluations should be withheld from faculty until sufficient evaluations exist to guarantee evaluator anonymity. See Evaluation of Faculty for detailed information.
